Job Description
A loadmaster plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe loading and unloading of cargo, vehicles, and passengers onto aircraft. By applying mathematical and engineering principles, they help maintain the aircraft’s balance and adhere to safety regulations. Their responsibilities include strategically planning the placement of loads on the airplane, prioritizing passenger comfort and safety, and effectively securing cargo. This vital work contributes significantly to the overall safety and efficiency of air travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A loadmaster oversees the ground crew while loading the cargo, so they use management skills to delegate tasks and ensure the safety and cooperation of their crew.

train new ground crew on how to use equipment and understand cargo plans and cargo the processes and regulations of cargo loading.

Communicate with their ground crew to deliver instructions and plans for loading the cargo. They also communicate with the flight crew to discuss take-off times or weight distribution.

Calculates weight and centre of gravity. They use their math skills to determine where specific pieces of cargo can fit into the cargo hold safely and securely.

Up to date on all laws and regulations concerning cargo handling. They use their attention to detail to monitor the processes of their ground crew to ensure compliance.

Work with various crews and aircraft, so they collaborate to ensure the accurate and quick loading and unloading of cargo.

Use their logical thinking and problem-solving abilities to plan out how the cargo can fit in the hold and secure it to prevent shifting in flight.

Other duties as assigned.

Can meet the Station’s attendance standards.

Possess/maintain a valid State driver’s license and other FAA/Airport required identification/seals or authorizations

High school diploma or equivalent

Must be flexible to work variable shifts, weekends, and holidays

Specific shifts to be determined by administrative staff due to operational needs

Must be able to work extended hours on short notice during irregular operation

Ability to work in inclement weather
