Required Experience: Senior Level Location:  Newark Liberty International Airport NJ 
The Lead Mechanic is responsible for aspects of the Field Service Technician position (as described below) as well as the following: The management of the overall performance of the crew and the timely and satisfactory completion of work assignments in accordance with Company policy. Leads will not have the authority to administer discipline or discharge. Comply with WFS site security procedures for assigned warehouse and other operations. Remain cognizant of WFS staff, security contractors, and visitors’ activities and report security breaches, suspicious occurrences, or non-compliance with the site security plan to managers or via the WFS whistleblower program. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends (i.e., Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), holidays, and days off.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Lift and carry tools and equipment up to 100 pounds
  • Move and climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Reaching, twisting, turning, and gripping while using tools.
  • Bend, stoop, and crawl to work in tight, restricted spaces.
  • Must be able to work underneath trucks and equipment for extended periods.
  • Must perform the following functions in variable weather and environmental conditions.
  • Work in a high noise level environment.
Note: This job is covered by a collective bargaining agreement of the Transport Workers Union (TWU), a labor union that requires joining the TWU and paying union dues.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Push, pull, lift, and hold ground equipment parts and components weighing up to 60 pounds in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, or installation of these parts and components from a sitting, standing, bending, squatting, or overhead position.
  • Drive vehicles weighing up to ten (10) tons in congested areas, requiring good depth perception and the ability to distinguish colors red, green, and yellow.
  • Operate a variety of tools, including power tools, in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, and installing parts and components.
  • Read and interpret printed or computerized maintenance manuals and write legibly to complete forms/paperwork as required.
  • Troubleshooting, disassembly, checking and cleaning, repairing, replacing, testing, adjusting, assembling, installing, servicing, fabricating, and inspecting required to maintain any fixed pedestal and apron drive aircraft passenger loading bridges, baggage transport systems, aircraft ground power generators, HVAC systems, aircraft ground portable water units and related equipment and all their components.
  • May be assigned to order, receive, inventory, secure or disburse parts and supplies on or off airport facilities.
  • Certifies for quality of own workmanship.
  • Other mechanic personnel may be assigned to assist him or her in completing an assignment.
  • Completes forms connected with work assignments according to established procedures and will communicate with other Company personnel as required in a manner designated by the Company.
  • Duties may also include the demonstration of proper work methods, conducting of on-the-job training, conducting of crew meetings and instruction of employees in new or revised operational procedures, apportioning and scheduling assigned work, observing, and analyzing the methods used and the results achieved, bring problems to the attention of management and assist management in the utilization of tools, equipment, and materials.
